Confessions of a Tween Superheroine The Dunk'N Divaz Series PlayBook 1 edition by JM Guy Children eBooks Reviews
Fiction aimed at the early teens has become a really exciting genre in recent years. There has been some great books that have helped to foster a love of reading in so many young people, and I think 'Confessions of a Tween Superheroine' is going to be one of these books. It is fun, exciting, cute, and it will resonate with so many kids that find themselves in the sometimes awkward, tween years. It is well written, with a flowing style, and great descriptions and characters.
The story follows Jazmin, a young girl, who is a talented basketball player, but her future dreams lie elsewhere...in music. She want a record deal, but is offered something completely different...the chance to become a superhero basketball player. Follow her adventures fighting crime in a unique slam dunking way. A great read for all ages.
I'd quite like to be a Dunk'N Diva is there is an opening in the next novel, J. M. Guy.
This book is "Absolutely Fantastic"! Touches the hearts of "kids of All ages". A must read and hard to put down!!! Saundra E.
“CAPTIVATING” From the beginning, this vivid book held my attention like a great 3D movie…it sparked imagination!!! I would highly recommend to all…a fun and exciting read…Loved It!!!
Finally a book about Black girls being superheroes. Their adventures are interesting and their friendships unique. I would recommend this to pre-teens as it provides self-esteem and empowerment through the tests the group has to overcome. Great for book clubs.
'Dunk'N Divas' by J. M. Guy, is a super cute read that it funny, exciting, and quite the page-turner. Jazmin Gillette is a keen basketball player, she enjoys the sport, but doesn't plan on pursuing it in the future. That is until she gets an intriguing offer from Dr. Billion – her gives her the chance to make the world a better place using her basketball skills. It is an adventure that would be too good to miss.
This series of books has great potential to be turned into an animated series for children's television. It is imaginative, uplifting and inspiring. In Jazmin, there is a character that will inspire many young people, both boys and girls. Plus it will encourage readers to follow their dreams, and become their own kind of superhero.
Confessions of a Tween Superheroine The Dunk'N Divaz Series (PlayBook 1) by J.M. Guy is a super cute book for the tween set with a young black girl becoming a super hero of sorts. A basketball player with dreams of hitting the big time, not in basketball, but in music, Jazmin is a feisty middle-schooler with a lot on her mind. From keeping up with her school work to following her dream, she is one busy girl. When a new opportunity comes her way, she's not sure what to make of it, after all it is for a new kind of basketball team, not a singing competition. This is a great little book that captures the tween experience quite well, and the characters are wonderfully described and each is very unique. Jazmin is so full of energy and excitement it is catching. Sure to entertain the young teen crowd and even older, this is a not to be missed debut YA novel that is highly appealing and sure to be a winner, just like Jazmin.
This middle grade book follows the adventures of five little female music hopefuls by the names of Jazmin, Briella, Janaya, Amani, and Takara who all attend Peachside Middle school in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. Together they are known as The Divaz Five and Jazmin is their leader who keeps her eyes and ears open for gigs and casting calls so they can perform and showcase their talents at. In other words, they are looking for their big break into the music industry. One day, while Jazmin was listening to her favorite FM radio station, the radio DJ announced that famous Aussie music mogul Diaman Brungdee will be stopping by their local area to look for young talent for his basketball reality show where music and sports are fused.
I was reading this book and all the time I was rooting for these young protagonists thinking to myself that this was an updated version of the Ann M. Martin Baby-sitters Club series of the 80’s and 90’s. I was thrilled to note that like Kristy and her Baby-sitters Club colleagues, this middle grade series is narrated by the leading character of the story where the first person point of view is used. Yeah, it’s that awesome! I commend the author J.M. Guy so much for her idea here because I think it’s one of the trends in the media nowadays where the youth are hoping to make it as big-time Hollywood singers where they will be worshipped by millions of fans and admirers. You know I am talking about TV shows like American Idol, The X Factor and the Voice. I can see this series being enjoyed by little girls (and boys) and another awesome aspect of it is that it does not focus on serious issues but on fun, magical, and healthy everyday situations that children go through.
If you grew up on Ann M. Martin and Francine Pascal of the 80s and 90s I firmly feel that you will love this forthcoming series for middle graders. I especially recommend it to those parents who are on the lookout for a fantastic series for their little girls (and boys I guess). I think this book will get your reluctant little reader to become hooked because there is also that millennial theme of girl-power in it. In this time and age, little girls are looking more into themes of female empowerment and this book has that. I guarantee to the parent reading this review that your little girl will eagerly devour this book because of the reasons I have already laid out above. At the end of this exciting and upcoming series, I had a huge smile on my face because it was that good! Yup!
A must read for boys and girls! A page turner from beginning to end! Each page "urges" the reader to continue on the journey with the Dunk'N Divaz!
