Hexed Hexed Series Michelle Krys Books

I'm just going to copy this from my goodreads review:
I had such high hopes for this book. I even bought the sequel before starting. I mean teen witches are my kryptonite but this book. Sigh, I wish it was better. The sarcastic one liners and sometimes interesting descriptions almost saved it but about half way through I realized there was no saving this book.

There are mild spoilers but nothing that will give away the ending (even though the last chapter was the only chapter I liked to be honest). Promise.
The author doesn’t do their research for information that gets repeated throughout the book (specifically how genetics work which is basic 7th grade bio knowledge). Everyone knows about Twilight and to be honest, the book feels dated with its pop culture. It’s published in 2014 but everyone feels like they’re stuck in 2008: Jay-Z concerts, Twilight, The Hills. I mean why does the mysterious bad boy with tattoos and a leather jacket know anything of value from Twilight? Let alone EVERYONE ELSE. Maybe I’m being too picky but that combined with lines like “It’s a feminine gesture, yet he obviously doesn’t care, and somehow his self-confidence makes it very masculine,” and “God, are you really that blind? It’s like in kindergarten when a boy pulls a girl’s hair. He likes you,” kill the story for me. Patriarchy does not look good on you, please stop falling into the stereotypes.

Also the needless interjecting from the character herself in the middle of sentences. It breaks the flow and honestly pulled me out of the story…sometimes to the point where I had to reread the sentence five times for me to even understand what was happening.

Everything went too fast. The characters were flat. The author described Indie’s clothing in the most stilted way possible. Indie was the worst friend ever to Paige and yet Paige is the biggest push over. Another character was introduced right in the middle and pulls a dues ex machina while I’m still wondering who the heck she is and the nine lives ring, you’ll understand if you read it, makes no sense and I hate the plot device. It was completely unnecessary.

The book wasn’t the worst I’ve ever read even though I’m being harsh on the rating but dang it’s no better than Twilight which it frequently talks about in the most flippant manner. If you’re a teen and love witches, go ahead and read it, but remember, when a boy pulls your hair he doesn’t like you…he’s a jerk…ignore whatever this book tells you.

Hexed Hexed Series Michelle Krys Books Reviews

What I Loved

1. The Camp And by camp I mean it's so much FUN like the movie/T.V. show, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." From the snarky and snappy dialogue to the high school stomping grounds, Krys had me at page one. Is Indigo a cheerleader just like the Buffster? Yup. But like Buffy, she's her own person as well. Within the first couple chapters, she sheds the typical high school cheerleader cliche in favor of a more introspective character. The wit with which she narrates her story is top-notch.

2. Blood, Gore, and Homecoming Floats Krys isn't at all worried about getting her hands dirty. Or bloody, even. When the first death happened, I thought all character deaths would be similar (i.e. killing off a character only to have that person pop up again somehow). Nope. They stayed dead, and this kept me happy. I've never been one for perfectly happy endings where everyone is allowed to live, and Krys didn't disappoint me. Another plus Her bad guys are BAD. From the way she describes their movements to their super creeptastic dialogue, the baddies upped the freak-out factor (bonus points to the Res. Dog references as well).

3. Believability Unlike other reviewers, I didn't get an "insta-love" thing between Indigo and Bishop. Now was there insta-lust? Heck, yes. Welcome to being a teenager. One minute the person is the dirt on your shoes and the next he/she is the feather in your cap. And lemme tell you, I'm around teenagers all the freaking time. Krys nailed the reactions perfectly. Same goes with the immaturity and the way these characters function. If you were to blindfold me, I'd still be able to pick out twenty Biancas at my school alone. They exist just as they have in every graduating class since the beginning of time. Um, hello? Josie Pye anyone?

4. Setting It's like Krys came to stay at my house. Seriously. She didn't fudge one detail.

5. Plot It moved quickly. Krys didn't spend eons of time on the exposition, opting instead to launch us into the story. Once you're a couple pages in, you better forget about getting anything else done for the rest of the day.

6. The Witchy Factor I love the details Krys added to her witches. There are some things that never change; however, I felt she kept her version of their skills fresh and didn't rely on common abilities. Nothing makes me yawn louder than characters I've seen in every other paranormal novel. Bishop's lives are an especially interesting take.

Overall 5 bloody fantastic stars! I can't wait for the next novel!!
Ms Krys has developed some of the creepiest scary bad guys and creates such a feeling of helplessness in the face of terrifying evil. Hard to read and impossible to put down.
Definitely for teenagers who love drama. I Caught my self rolling my eyes a lot reading this.
